Most workers who are injured in Georgia do not know their legal rights. If you are injured on the job, you may be entitled to the following benefits:
1. If you are forced to miss work because of your injury, you may be entitled to receive temporary total disability payments. These are weekly payments that equal two-thirds (67%) of your weekly salary.
2. You are also entitled to see a doctor that is posted at your job. If your employer has not posted physician names, you may choose your own doctor. The employer should pay 100 percent of all reasonable and necessary medical expenses of these doctors. Furthermore, your doctor can refer you to other specialists and your employer must also pay these expenses.
3. Lastly, you may be entitled to permanent disability benefits. These payments represent a settlement for your injuries.
In addition to your basic rights, the Workers Compensation Act governs other aspects of workers compensation law. The Georgia Workers' Compensation Commission rules on these cases, and you should be represented by an attorney.
